Proxies: why we need them and how they work

A proxy is an intermediate service between the user and the information on the network, which passes data through itself and changes it. Proxy servers work on the principle of a filter: they mimic a separate server, change the geo-position or IP of the device. This is important for advertising networks that prohibit multi-accounting and recognize server data.

Proxies are needed for arbitrageurs to bypass social network and site security systems. Let’s say Facebook has blocked a couple of profiles, it will remember the IP address and ban all the devices that connect from it. Since social networks do not allow one user to work from multiple accounts, you will never be able to create new profiles from this address again.

That’s where proxies that change IP and GEO come in. It will create the appearance of a completely different device, unrelated to the blocked one. The arbitrator will be able to continue his work until he is detected again by the digital footprint.

Proxies are a must-have expendable tool for the arbitrator, without which it is impossible to run massive advertising campaigns and therefore large profits.

Table of context

The main reasons why arbitrageurs use proxies.

  • IP address spoofing. When the site starts banning profiles, the proxy will change the address and the profiles will become trusted again.
  • GEO change. It is important that the GEO is the same as the IP address, otherwise moderators will be suspicious. Proxy servers synchronously change countries, so accounts live longer.

Example: an arbitrator wants to launch a campaign in Europe, but he himself is in Latin America. Just start pouring traffic is too suspicious, the budget will be wasted. Using a proxy, the GEO will change, and the probability of getting a profit will be higher.

  • Speeding up third-party sites. Parsers, data collection programs, SEO-optimizers work faster and more stable with proxies. For example, Key Collector launched together with a proxy gives results several times faster.
  • Bypassing bans. Websites blocked by the state are not opened without VPN. With a proxy you don’t need to download additional programs, because they change the GEO and remove the restrictions.

How a proxy works: it receives a request from a user, changes its parameters (GEO and IP address). Then the modified request is sent to the Internet, the proxy gets a response and redirects it to the user. It turns out that it is an intermediary between man and the network, the purpose of which is to change the personal data in order to mimic another device.

Proxies come in several types. The classification depends on:

  • Type of access. Services can be free, with shared access for a group of users, and individual (dedicated) for individual buyers. The latter are the most effective, since all public and shared services are defined by advertising networks and are included in stop-lists. Also, free ones are times slower and weaker in modifying user data.
  • Addresses. There are two types of addresses: IPv4 and IPv6. When working with modern sites, such as Facebook and Google Adwords, you should use IPv6 addresses, because this is a faster version of the Internet protocol. With older sites – VK, Instagram, other social networks that do not support IPv6 – you should use IPv4. Version 4 is older, cheaper, but not supported by all sites.
  • Types. Arbitrators should only use resident proxies, that is, those issued to ordinary users from Internet service providers, they are tied to real physical devices. All other types of servers are tracked and blocked by any site.
  • Protocols. There are two types – Socks 4\5 or HTTPS. Socks 4\5 is preferable: it does not transmit user data to the site, provides a transparent connection and makes it seem as if the user is connected to the site without intermediaries. HTTPS protocol is slightly less secure, it works on the usual schemes of data processing – tunneling and caching.
  • GEO. For advertising algorithms and moderators it is important that the GEO of the server coincides with the GEO of the promoting country. The cost depends on this: a LatAm proxy costs more than a German proxy.

It’s important to understand the difference between proxies and VPNs. VPNs can bypass blockages at the operational level in several applications or sites at once A proxy simply redirects Internet traffic through itself, minimally changing it to work with one site or application. Arbitrators use proxy servers because of their great adaptability and flexibility at the software level.

Is it necessary to work with proxies?

The answer is simple: without a proxy you can’t pour from many advertising sites to different GEOs.

If you try to pour from different platforms and the same IP, very quickly the address will be recognized and all associated accounts will be blocked. After that, you won’t be able to register and “whiten” new profiles or run ads and make profit from old ones.

Without a proxy, the arbitrator has less choice of advertising platforms and countries to promote, because you can’t change your region. The reason is that serious advertising networks will not allow to start advertising in foreign countries, until the corresponding GEO is exposed – such actions are considered as cheating.

For convenient and effective work it is worth to choose paid individual resident proxies at once. Free and group ones are immediately recognized by algorithms and will be a waste of time:

  • Black list. Most free and general proxies are blacklisted by advertising platforms. You will not be able to establish constant stable and high-quality work with them, because accounts will be blocked at once.
  • Slow downloads. Free services seriously slow down because they are used by dozens of users from different countries.
  • High risks. Free servers are poorly encrypted with security protocols, so information can be stolen by other server users.

Proven, quality servers immediately keep the arbitrator comfortable and increase earnings.

How to set up a proxy

Most often, proxies are used in conjunction with an anti-detect browser, so that each page has its own private IP-address. If the service is running without anti-detection-browser, the arbitrator will have to switch the server, which will affect the confidentiality of data transfer and efficiency.

In this section, let’s figure out how to set up proxy servers. Here is the algorithm to work with:

  1. Buy a proxy. A list with the server address before the colon and the port after will be available to you.

2. Install and configure the anti-detect.

3. Create browser profiles. In each profile you need to find the “Proxy” section, for example, in the Indigo antidetector it is located on the left side of the screen:

4. Enter the addresses and ports of the servers obtained from the proxy.

5. Next, you need to check whether the addresses given by the proxy are valid. To do this, you need to determine IP and GEO through any third-party program.

A proxy can be set up manually and without installing an anti-detect browser. Here is the algorithm of how it works:

1. Go to the “Network and Internet” settings;

2. Select “Proxy Server”.

3. Make the “Use proxy server” checkbox active.

4. Enter the port and address from the proxy.

5. Enter the addresses of the sites for which you want to make exceptions and use a proxy.

6. Save the result.

Output

  • A proxy is an intermediate service between the user and the network that passes traffic through and changes IP and GEO.
  • Services are used to bypass the antifraud systems of advertising sites, you can use them to create new accounts and improve old ones.
  • To make the work easier and more efficient, proxies should be used in conjunction with anti-detect browsers.
  • You should not use free proxies in arbitrage because they are recognized and blocked by most ad networks.
  • There are different kinds of protocols, addresses and types of proxies. For quality work, you should choose resident proxies based on Socks 5. The IPv4 address is suitable for social networks and older advertising platforms, and IPv6 for modern ones.
  • Proxies should be chosen from the GEO in which the advertising campaign is planned to run for more trust from the advertising networks.
